Improve Circulation, Reduce Pain, and Promote Healing

cups used for cupping therapy

Cupping therapy is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment that involves placing cups on the body to create suction. The suction draws blood to the skin’s surface and surrounding areas, which helps improve circulation, reduce pain, and promote healing, as well as detoxify the area of concern.

Cupping is a safe and effective treatment for many conditions. However, it is important to note that cupping therapy can cause discoloration in the areas where the cups have been placed. This coloration can look like bruising, but what you are seeing is dead blood cells, and the waste being brought to the surface of the skin, so that the lymph system can work through its natural process to remove them from the body. These areas of color are harmless and will fade within a few days to a week depending on how quickly your lymph system works on moving it through your system.

Cupping Therapy + Massage

Cupping therapy and massage such as Swedish massage or deep tissue massage are often combined to create a more comprehensive and effective treatment. Cupping therapy can help to improve circulation and reduce inflammation, while massage can help to relax the muscles and promote healing.

When cupping therapy and massage are combined, the benefits of each treatment are amplified. The suction created by the cups can help to draw out toxins and impurities from the body, while the massage can help to break up scar tissue and improve range of motion.

What to Expect During a Cupping Therapy Session

A cupping therapy session will start out with some massage work to warm and loosen up the tissue.

After that, a single cup will be used to do massage cupping (moving the cup across the tissue) in the area of concern. This process is to lift and settle the tissue, and to start breaking up the fascia.

Then the cups will be placed stationary in areas that need time for the cupping process to be of maximum benefit to the healing of the body.
